A BOPPING DANCEFLOOR is the mission of New York City?s Second
Movement (www.secondmovement.com). The band, which began its
journey into groove-driven jazz-funk in 2003, has emerged as an
energetic and original voice within the field, amazing audiences with
the force and precision of its sound. They have headlined festivals and
clubs along the East Coast, and have shared the stage with the
undisputed Grandfather of the instrumental funk style, Meters' guitarist
Leo Nocentelli.
Second Movement is serious about its music, and its approach is
thoroughly old school. Both of the band's albums -- the eponymous
debut (2005) and the forthcoming LP -- were recorded live in the studio.
For the band, the perfect take means everything, and the music exists
within the moment. The compositional detail, the rhythmic focus, the
burning solos -- everything you hear on these recordings take on an
even greater intensity in a live setting.
Live is how these cats should be heard, and experienced.
Through dedication to their mission, Second Movement creates both a danceinspiring
sound and the environment in which this sound can be
received and moved to. The result is deeply gratifying, if not ecstatic --
an exchange of positive, creative energies on a fundamental human
level.
