Top 10 Sought-After Luxury Watch Brands In India
20 May, 20250
Franck Muller, celebrated as the “Master of Complications”, introduced the Vanguard collection to embody a harmonious blend of aesthetic refinement and technical bravado. While the brand drew initial acclaim for its Cintrée Curvex models, the Vanguard emerged as a confident evolution of that signature tonneau silhouette. It channels the brand’s penchant for avant‑garde elegance and sportive grace into a fresh, clean design. It was an artistic pivot that invited both admiration and intrigue.
The Franck Muller Vanguard collection was conceived with the ambition of interweaving straight lines and curves, inspired by the “Streamline Modern” architectural style popularised in the nineteen‑twenties and thirties. This reference to Art Deco signals a deliberate link between past craftsmanship and present innovation. By repositioning its contouring onto four curved axes instead of the traditional two, the Vanguard asserts a shape that is at once powerful and ergonomic. It is a case architecture that embraces both heritage and modernity, encapsulating the forward‑thinking spirit that Franck Muller intended.
Design Philosophy
The Vanguard collection embodies a harmonious blend of beauty and performance. Its case features clean, innovative aesthetics with a mix of polished and brushed finishes, while the bold bezel and flank inserts create a commanding, recognisable silhouette. The curved caseback ensures comfort on the wrist.
Distinctive appliqué numerals on the dial are hand‑polished and brushed, showcasing Franck Muller’s artisanal precision. The integrated strap enhances the watch’s fluid profile. Subtle dial elements, like compass points, evoke time as a navigable journey. The Franck Muller Vanguard collection reflects Franck Muller Watchland’s vision: technical innovation and elevated design must coexist, merging straight lines and curves into one refined, assertive form.

The Vanguard range offers an impressive variety, each sub‑collection imbued with a distinct personality yet united by shared stylistic DNA.

- Vanguard Classical
- Vanguard Tourbillon
- Vanguard Grand Date
- Vanguard Yachting
- Vanguard Skeleton
- Vanguard Gravity
Vanguard Classical
The Classical models form the foundation of the Vanguard line, expressing a subtle balance of sportiness and timeless craftsmanship. Defined by the collection’s signature tonneau-shaped case, these watches come in rose gold, white gold, stainless steel, and titanium, with some variants featuring diamond-set bezels. Their hallmark lies in the three-dimensional applied numerals, individually hand-polished and brushed to float above the dial, giving the watch a sculptural depth. The dials vary from minimalist silver to rich colour palettes, always paired with integrated alligator leather straps for a cohesive look. These models feature in-house automatic movements with 30-metre water resistance and offer versatile dimensions, typically ranging from 41 to 45mm for men and smaller sizes for women. Crafted entirely in Franck Muller’s own “Watchland” manufacture in Geneva, the Vanguard Classic carries the architectural elegance of the larger line while offering sober, everyday legibility.
Vanguard Tourbillon
The Tourbillon series within Vanguard transforms intricate mechanics into open performance. These models are known for their openworked or skeletonised dials, often framing the tourbillon cage at six o’clock. Rather than conceal complexity, they highlight it. Tourbillon bridges and cages are enhanced with lacquered red or blue finishes, turning mechanical necessity into visual interest. Crafted from titanium or precious metals, these timepieces feature sapphire crystal casebacks that fully reveal the movement. Both manual and automatic in-house tourbillon calibres are used, offering around 42 hours of power reserve.
Vanguard Grand Date
The Grande Date collection refines practicality without losing the Vanguard identity. These models feature oversized date displays, usually at twelve or six o’clock, for ease of reading, but executed in a way that maintains the visual symmetry of the dial. The tonneau case and bold numerals remain consistent, ensuring stylistic continuity with the broader collection. Equipped with customised automatic movements, these watches maintain 30-metre water resistance and a similar power reserve profile. Select pieces include chronograph complications, demonstrating Franck Muller’s expertise in integrating multiple functions within a visually balanced design.
Vanguard Yachting
Tailored for nautical elegance, Vanguard Navy features a robust yet refined look. Each variant. It comes in black, blue, or silver and is powered by an automatic movement with a 42‑hour power reserve and a six o’clock date aperture. Rubber straps ensure comfort and marine readiness, with each dial bearing hand‑applied numerals and refined finishing. Automatic movements power these creations, with selected models incorporating chronograph or regatta timer complications that serve practical sailing applications. The Vanguard Yachting Chronograph exemplifies this functionality through its regatta timer, blue accents, and compass rose dial, whilst the Yachting Anchor Skeleton combines openworked movement architecture with nautical motifs and blue bridges, creating a unique synthesis of technical display and thematic design.
Vanguard Skeleton
Franck Muller’s Vanguard Skeleton watches lay bare their intricate inner workings with fully openworked dials that showcase hand-finished bridges and gear trains inside the signature tonneau case. Ranging from 42 to 45 mm in a variety of case materials, they house manual or automatic in-house calibres, while floating numerals and luminous skeleton hands ensure clarity without obscuring the mechanics. Sapphire crystal front and back display the interplay of gears and rotor. Diamond-set cases and numerals are optional for extra radiance, paired with an alligator strap that echoes the fine detailing. The range also offers the Slim Skeleton, which stands out for its 9.1mm case thickness and 38-hour power reserve, achieved without compromising on complexity.
Vanguard Gravity
The Gravity models are the boldest expressions in the Vanguard range. These pieces amplify the tourbillon mechanism to a larger-than-life scale, often dominating the lower portion of the dial. Coloured lacquer coatings in red or blue distinguish the massive tourbillon cages, which appear almost suspended within the skeletonised framework. Constructed primarily from titanium with matte black PVD treatments, Gravity models balance dramatic aesthetics with robust design. They’re powered by manual in-house tourbillon movements, offering 42 hours of power reserve while retaining 30-metre water resistance.
