The Explorer has always been defined by a single principle: legibility above all else. The black dial on the 124273 carries the collection's characteristic three, six and nine Arabic numerals filled with Chromalight luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow — the same Chromalight used in the hour markers and hands, all designed and manufactured in-house, largely by hand. There is no date. The dial's entire surface belongs to the three hands and the numerals that have defined the Explorer since 1953. The smooth bezel is in yellow gold, robust yet elegant, carrying the Rolesor construction through from case to bracelet. Water resistance extends to 100 metres via the Twinlock screw-down crown.
Yellow Rolesor has been a Rolex trademark since 1933, the combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold harmonising the material properties of both metals. On the Explorer, it introduces warmth to a collection that has traditionally occupied a purely functional register.
This Explorer 36, Reference 124273, has visible scratches across the crystal, bezel, case, caseback, bracelet and clasp, yet it remains in good condition.
At Second Movement, the pre-owned division of Ethos Watches, we adhere to a rigorous verification process where expert watchmakers carefully inspect every watch to certify its authenticity, ensuring it is not counterfeit. We also go to the maximum extent possible to ensure that the timepiece is not a stolen property and that all duties are paid. However, in the absence of any central database, a 100% verification is unlikely for any pre-owned entity in India. Nevertheless, we can still provide a provenance guarantee for watches purchased from Ethos.
