IWC released the Portugieser Automatic 42 Year of the Horse as a Lunar New Year special edition, with the celebration built into the movement itself. The 42.4mm stainless steel case, 13mm thick, carries double box-glass sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on both sides, a synthetic sapphire caseback, and water resistance to five bar. The Portugieser's characteristic clean proportions remain intact: a large, legible dial with golden appliques and a date display, golden hands against a burgundy surface.

The burgundy dial and golden hands and appliques run as a warm, coherent palette across the watch's face. A power reserve display completes the dial alongside the date and small hacking seconds.
