While on the front, the case is protected by a substantially-thick sapphire crystal; the caseback comes with fluted edges secured by screws that can be opened only by a special tool owned by Rolex watchmakers. The patented Ring Lock system, unidirectional Cerachrom bezel, and the helium escape valve at 9 o’clock further reinforce this reference’s functional supremacy.
