Why we love it
Zenith's exceptional watchmaking continues to keep patrons intrigued with this 2020-released Chronomatser Open. This reiteration of the 2003 version created under the then-CEO Thierry Nataf holds as much charm today as it did almost a decade earlier. Of course, the new model has undergone contemporary refinements. Yet, the idea of baring open the movement to showcase its high-frequency performance is still right up the alley of many watch enthusiasts.
It's an elegant-looking timepiece that blends size, style, and substance to create a wholesome package. The case is relatively more wearable at 39.5mm, allowing both men and women to flaunt the timepiece with ease. Also, 13.1mm thickness and small lug-to-lug dimension create a potent impact on the wrist. It is classically round, in steel, but in a way that highlights its rugged nature with a finely brushed finish throughout.

The focal point of the watch is the dial. Here, Zenith has expertly displayed the movement El Primero 3604, a modified version of the calibre used in the original Chronomaster Open. For better visibility of the escapement's workings, the maison has meticulously skeletonised the mainplate and the bridges. The hypnotic high-frequency mechanism is displayed through three overlapping circular windows around nine and 10 o'clock, reinforced by a hesalite crystal. These windows reveal the balance wheel, the silicon escape wheel in blue and purple shaped as Zenith's star logo, and the seconds sub-register. The coloured sub-dials at three and six, together with the luminous indexes and hands, further bolster the watch's impressive functional prowess.

While traditionally calibre 3600 has always come with a date, this watch marks the first dateless iteration of the movement.
